It Was the Greatest Test of Me

           First Verse:

I was swinging on the porch with Grandpa today, when one of his friends came by. They started talking about their military history; Grandpa said did you used to fly.

The other man said, very gratefully, yes I did I’m glad you asked.  The wife doesn’t like me to talk about it; she says I spend too much time in the past.

            Chorus:

But those were good times, good times, the best times of my life, I wasn’t even married yet, I just had met my wife.  I was living hard and fighting hard for my country.  By God it was the greatest test of me.

Second Verse:

When we went back inside the living room, I saw a picture of Grandpa on the wall.  He was dressed in a military uniform, standing straight and tall. 

I asked him if he flew a plane in the war, he said no I was stuck in the mud, I really don’t like to talk about it, you see, it’s just because, I saw a lot of blood. 

Third Verse:

When I looked over at my grandpa again, there was a tear falling from his eye, I knew in my heart he was hero, and he was not afraid to cry.

Then I walked over to grandpa, gave him the biggest hug I could, I saluted him and said thank you sir, for your past life and for doing what you should,

Final Modified Chorus:
